This concert presents the sublime nature of classical music through works from different eras and styles. Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks’ Musica Serena, ethereal and meditative, is paired with the dark and introspective Cello Concerto No. 2 by Shostakovich, which reflects the composer’s contrasting emotions. Making his Belgrade debut, the fantastic cellist Maximilian Hornung will perform. The concert, conducted by Daniel Raiskin, concludes with the symphonic masterpiece Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov.
